Interactive device - Promoting the natural heritage of Villefontaine

Concept :
Interactive in situ device functioning as an underwater radar, allowing visitors to virtually explore the invisible aquatic life of Saint-Bonnet pond. By scanning the pond from left to right, visitors “scan” the surface and discover virtual fish via an audio and visual system. An immersive experience revealing the hidden richness of the local natural heritage.

Objective :
Create a concrete and immersive experience that transforms a simple walk into a moment of curiosity and attention. Reveal the invisible life beneath the surface of the water through three levels of interpretation: gesture (physical exploration), sound (perceived presence), and image (visual recognition). Poetically highlight the local natural heritage through mediation accessible to curious adults.

Technique :
  • Physical cardboard prototype (60-70 cm wide, 35-40 cm high) secured to the railing with rope and a stabilizing base
  • Built-in tablet displaying interactive interface with character guide and collection system
  • Accelerometer test (p5.js): detection of device movements to move a “window” within a large image, simulating the exploration of the depths.
  • Interaction logic: physical rotation → virtual detection → fish display + sound feedback
  • Lightweight, non-invasive, and removable intervention that respects the natural site
